The Moment (from the Homily) BETHUNE CATHOLIC - June 5, 2017 At St Ann Byzantine Catholic Church in San Luis Obispo on Saturday, June 3rd, my oldest son Nicholas was married to Alexis. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding. I so inspired by the courage and charity displayed by this young man and this young woman in the past year with the adversities that they have, not endured, but sanctified. This was my first trip to California since 1989. I flew in late Thursday for the Saturday wedding and took the red-eye home ...http://bethunecatholic.blogspot.com/2017/06/the-moment-from-homily.html

James Jackson's book, Nothing Superfluous: An Explanation of the Symbolism of the Rite of St. Gregory the Great , reminding all of the truth that times of intense ignorance and malady call for intense instruction and remedy. While popular culture pushes a progressivist agenda against tradition and its authority, it behooves Catholics to defend the wisdom of tradition and show its relevance, beauty, and vitality—a task ...http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNewLiturgicalMovement/~3/CzRkeZTuT7o/a-bi-ritual-education-guest-article-by.html

Easter at St Peter's Eastern Catholic Church in Ukiah, California NEW LITURGICAL MOVEMENT - May 24, 2017 In the Byzantine tradition, the day before the Ascension is known as the "Leave-taking" of Easter; this is the official end of the Paschal season, marked by dropping certain features from the liturgy. (E.g., the famous chant which begins every Divine Liturgy in the Easter season, "Christ is risen from the dead; by death He trampled death...", is discontinued after today.) I thought it would be good to mark the day with one last bit of unfinished business from our most ...http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNewLiturgicalMovement/~3/71ns-WeYEy0/easter-at-st-peters-eastern-catholic.html

Why I Won't Be in Pittsburgh Tomorrow Night CATHOLIC TRADITIONAL LOOKING FOR WIFE - May 18, 2017 Tomorrow evening, the dating website Catholic Match will be conducting the semi-annual National Catholic Singles Conference, with the East coast edition in Pittsburgh this weekend. Other than the costs, there is no reason for a single Catholic to attend. Pope St. John I, Defender of the Faith and Martyr BIG C CATHOLICS - May 17, 2017 ... the Arian heresy had weakened in the East, but was not dead. The Byzantine Emperor Justin I ordered Arian clergy to surrender their churches into orthodox Catholic hands. Meanwhile, in the West, Theodoric (King of the Ostrogoths and ruler of Italy), enraged by the emperor's actions, attempted to coopt the Pope's authority for his own ends. This placed Pope John in an untenable position. Despite the Pope's orthodoxy, the Arian King Theodoric expected him to ...http://www.bigccatholics.com/2017/05/pope-st-john-i-defender-of-faith-and.html

Lent III THE CATHOLIC HERITAGE ASSOCIATION OF IRELAND - April 25, 2017 ... Jachet of Mantua. Jachet's religious works, almost the whole of his oeuvre , may be taken as a fair representation of the mind of the Fathers of the Council of Trent upon polyphonic Church music, especially the President of the Council, Ercole, Cardinal Gonzaga, scion of the great Ducal House of Manutua, Bishop of Mantua and Jachet's principal patron. In the clip above is the setting by Giovanni Legrenzi (1626-1690), one of the maestri di capella of St. Mark's in Venice. His Ave Regina ...http://catholicheritage.blogspot.com/2009/03/lent-iii.html

Celebrating Pascha PONDERED IN MY HEART - April 25, 2017 This year our traditions were a mix of old and new as we celebrated for the first time at our Byzantine Catholic Church. We made a lot of pysanky during Holy Week, something we hadn't done since my oldest children were little. Lydia decorated one of our homemade beeswax tapers for our Paschal candle. She used crayon melted in a kistka to apply the design and it worked like a charm (boiling water made quick work of cleaning up the kistka). I made my ...http://ponderedinmyheart.typepad.com/pondered_in_my_heart/2017/04/my-entry.html

"The Thursday of Mysteries" SCELATA - April 13, 2017 ... that are not sung recto tono or to a psalm tone would be unrecognizable they would be rendered so badly, by a choir that included on singer with a voice like an electric cheese grater.
